Beautifully posed newborn photography in Southampton & Hampshire
You bring your family. I’ll take care of the experience.
Those first few weeks with your baby pass by in a beautiful blur, everyone will tell you this but you won’t believe it until it happens! Trust them because it does.
Tiny fingers. Sleepy cuddles. Little stretches. The way they curl into your arms. All those precious details that seem impossible to forget — until, somehow, your tiny newborn isn’t quite so tiny anymore and this happens in the first 2-3 weeks.
At Claire Grant Photography, I specialise in beautifully posed newborn photography for families in Southampton, Hampshire and the surrounding areas.
With over 10 years of experience and hundreds of newborn babies photographed, my aim is simple: to create beautiful, timeless photographs of your baby’s earliest days, while giving you a relaxed and enjoyable experience along the way. My style is simple so the poses show off your baby and don’t become overcrowded. Leaving them timeless.
Your baby’s safety and comfort always come first. I had extensive training over 10 years ago and I have studied newborn behaviours throughout that time. I pride myself so much on safety that I teach it to other photographers too. In an unregulated industry, I plead with you to ask your photographer what training they’ve had.

A newborn photography experience that’s calm, relaxed and baby-led
Bringing your precious new baby to a photography session for the first time can feel a little daunting.
You might be wondering:
What if my baby cries?
What if they won’t sleep?
What if they need feeding halfway through?
What if they don’t like being posed?
Please don’t worry.
Your baby doesn’t need to be perfect for their photoshoot.
Babies are babies, and I completely understand that they have their own little plans!
My newborn sessions are relaxed and baby-led. I take my time, follow your baby’s cues and allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddling, changing and settling.
There is no rushing and no pressure.
My job is to take care of the experience so that you can relax and enjoy those precious moments with your new baby. And because I have photographed hundreds of babies, I will handle any situation thrown at me and still provide you with a gorgeous experience and stunning images. I have never asked for a client to return!

Beautiful photographs. A calm experience. Memories to treasure.
When you choose your newborn photographer, you’re trusting them with something incredibly precious.
That’s why experience matters.
I’ve spent over 10 years photographing newborn babies and have developed a calm, patient approach that allows each session to unfold naturally.
I want you to feel confident that your baby is in safe, experienced hands — while also creating the beautiful, timeless photographs you’ve been dreaming about.

Your family is included
As well as beautiful photographs of your baby, we can capture precious photographs with parents and siblings too.

I’ll guide you through the whole experience, from what to expect before your session to creating your final collection of photographs.

What happens during your newborn photoshoot?
Your newborn session is about much more than simply taking photographs.
It’s time to slow down, take a breath and enjoy your baby.
01 — Arrive & settle in
There’s no rushing straight into photographs.
We’ll take some time to get comfortable, chat about your baby and what you’d like from your session.
If your baby needs a feed or a cuddle first, that’s absolutely fine.
02 — We follow your baby’s lead
Once your baby is settled, we’ll begin creating your newborn portraits.
I’ll gently guide and pose your baby where appropriate, always taking their comfort and safety into consideration.
If they wake, wriggle, need a feed or want a cuddle, we simply pause.
03 — Capture your family together
Your baby may be the reason you’ve booked, but these photographs are about your whole family.
We’ll capture beautiful images of your baby on their own, as well as precious photographs with you, your partner and siblings where appropriate.
04 — Remember all the tiny details
The little things change so quickly.
Tiny toes.
Little fingers.
Their button nose.
The way their whole hand fits inside yours.
We’ll make sure those details are captured too.

When should I book my newborn photography session?
The best time to book is during pregnancy.
I recommend getting in touch during your second or early third trimester.
When you book your newborn photography session, I’ll take your due date and reserve space around it.
Of course, babies don’t always arrive according to plan!
Once your little one arrives, we’ll arrange the exact date for your session.
Booking during pregnancy means your newborn session is already taken care of before your baby arrives — one less thing for you to think about during those busy first days.
Already had your baby?
Please don’t worry — you haven’t missed your chance. 🤍
Although I recommend booking during pregnancy, I always encourage you to get in touch even if your baby has already arrived.
If I have availability, I’ll do my very best to accommodate you.
So whether you’re still waiting for your little one or already have your precious baby in your arms, simply get in touch and I’ll let you know what’s possible.
Expecting? Reserve your session during pregnancy.
Baby already here? Contact me and I’ll check my availability.

How old should my baby be for newborn photographs?
Newborn sessions are generally scheduled during the first couple of weeks after birth, when babies are often naturally sleepier and curl up beautifully.
However, there isn’t a strict cut-off.
Every baby is different, and beautiful photographs can be created beyond those first couple of weeks too.
So if your baby has already arrived and you’re worried that you’ve left it too late, please get in touch rather than assuming you’ve missed your opportunity.
What if my baby won’t sleep?
This is one of the most common things parents worry about — and honestly, you don’t need to.
Your baby doesn’t have to sleep throughout their entire session but it’s rare that they don’t.
We can pause for feeds, cuddles and changes, and we’ll follow your baby’s cues throughout.
Some of the most beautiful photographs happen when babies are awake, stretching, looking around or simply snuggling with Mum and Dad.
There is no such thing as a “bad” baby for a newborn photoshoot.
Can parents and siblings be included?
Absolutely.
Some of the photographs you treasure most may not be the ones of your baby lying peacefully on their own.
They may be the photograph of your baby’s tiny hand wrapped around Dad’s finger.
Your first cuddle as a family of three.
A big brother or sister meeting their new baby.
The way your newborn fits perfectly into your arms.
These moments are just as important to me as the beautifully posed newborn portraits.
We’ll create a collection that tells the story of your growing family.
What should I bring to my newborn session?
Don’t worry about bringing everything but the kitchen sink!
I’ll provide guidance before your session so you know exactly what you need.
The most important things are simply:
Your baby.
Yourself.
And time to relax.
If your baby needs feeding, changing or settling during the session, that’s completely normal.
Newborn photography investment
Newborn photography sessions with Claire Grant Photography start from £320, with collections available up to £520.
I offer a choice of collections so you can choose the option that’s right for you and your family.
Your photographs deserve to be more than images that disappear into your phone’s camera roll.
These are the photographs you’ll look back on when your baby is bigger.
The photographs your child may one day look at and say:
“Was I really that tiny?”
They’re memories of a time that only lasts for such a short while.
More than just a newborn photoshoot
Your newborn session is the beginning of your baby’s story.
From those first tiny photographs to watching them grow and change, I’d love to be there to capture those milestones for you.
Because while the photographs may take a few hours to create, the memories they hold can last a lifetime.
